Prosperity Point: First Steps

In Prosperity, Charles Fillmore uses the word "substance" 326 times. It's not an uncommon word, but many of us find that he gives it an uncommon meaning. We use the word "substance" in its physical sense. A substance is something elemental, that we use to make other, more complex things, but it's something we can see, touch, sense.

Fillmore's substance is similar in some ways. It's formless. We use it to make other, more complex things.

But it's also different. It's not something we perceive with our senses, which perhaps is what makes it so much harder for us to understand. It's equally available to all of us. And unlike physical substance, spiritual substance is limitless. Fillmore says that "the unfailing resource is always ready to give. It has no choice in the matter; it must give, for that is its nature." How many physical substances can you say that about?

Fillmore calls spiritual substance "the fundamental basis of the universe." It's what everything we sense comes from. And it's what we use to manifest what we want. We're all born with the capacity to do so, just like we're born with the capacity for language. But like language, we must learn to connect to spiritual substance to allow it to do its work.

It's hard for us to believe in what we don't see. But that's the essence of faith, and faith is what it takes for substance, the Divine, God, to do its work.

Our desires exist in our mind before they exist externally. We are always commanding substance, sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously. To manifest what we want, we must consciously fill our minds with it.

Further, we must shape our desires in a creative sense, not a competitive sense, as Wallace Wattles describes in "The Science of Getting Rich." We create what we want with the spirit of having enough for everyone, not with the idea that we can only have what we want by taking away from someone else.

Since it is limitless, substance doesn't fluctuate with the economy or natural disasters. It's always there, and its techniques don't depend on our current situation, financial or otherwise. It depends on our faith and our willingness to do the mental work involved in impressing our desires on the formless structures, then take whatever action is necessary to make these desires take shape.

Here's an excellent article, "The First Steps to Manifesting the Life You Want," that talks more about where to start.

Today’s Recommendation: Wealth Beyond Reason

I've read a lot of material from authors that have truly inspired me. Sometimes I wonder...who inspires them? Here's a common answer: Bob Doyle. His Wealth Beyond Reason course is all about exposing lies that we've learned to believe - lies that tell us we have limits, that following our dreams won't work for us, that we must suffer to succeed. By all means, at the very least, take his free introductory seminar.
